Planning Your Rome Visit

Where are the best areas for shopping in Rome?
The more touristy and well known areas are Corso Street and Piazza di Spagna, here you will find all the known brands. For a less touristy place, check out Via Cola di Rienzo, nice shops but not super expensive designer stores.
Where to go for local food in Rome?
Ristorante Cadorna is a very local and authentic experience. Get the carbonara and the Roman artichokes. Campo de Fiori they have a farmer's market, and there is Il Fornaio which is a wonderful bakery.
How long does one need to see Rome for the first time?
I would suggest about 4-5 days at least. There are a few spots that require you to get up pretty early if you don't want to spend the whole day in line waiting for things. (ie: the Vatican, climbing St. Peters, seeing the Sistine Chapel, Colloseum, etc). Also, Rome has so many different areas that deserve an entire day to wander and see.
