Read moreWe will arrive in Yellowstone National Park around noon and visit Mammoth Hot Springs. In the northwest, the Mammoth District features Mammoth Hot Springs Terrace which was formed by the limestone of softer nature. As hot water rises through limestone, large quantities of rock are dissolved by the hot water, and a white chalky mineral is deposited on the surface.
Due to the long distance to Yellowstone, we will depart at 7-8 am approximately.
Yellowstone National Park is a national park located in the U.S. states of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone was the first national park in the U.S. and is also widely held to be the first national park in the world. The park is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful geyser, one of its most popular features. It has many types of ecosystems, but the subalpine forest is the most abundant. It is part of the South Central Rockies forests ecoregion.
Mammoth Hot Springs - This large complex of hot springs is impressive both for its unique beauty as well as its scale. Formed hundreds of thousands of years ago by volcanic and seismic activity, these springs are one of Yellowstone's most popular spots.
Read moreToday, we will firstly visit Jackson Hole and find the famous Antler Arches of Jackson in the town. It is a unique and gorgeous landmark representing the nearby Elk Reserve.
Later we will head to Grand Teton National Park.
After that, we will visit Yellowstone National Park again, by touring the famous Old Faithful Geyser, Grand Prismatic Hot Spring, Morning Glory, West Thumb Geyser Basin, Dragon's Mouth Spring, Mud Volcano, Fountain Paint Pot, Artist Point, Yellowstone Falls, Yellowstone Lake etc.
The antlers have been there since the early 1960s, and new arches are currently assembled to replace them. One of the originals now sits in a vacant lot on the way into town. Antlers, we are reminded several times, are solid and fall off naturally from animals who grow new sets every year. This contrasts with horns, which have to be sawed off but then are hollow.

Read moreOld Faithful Geyser - Old Faithful is a cone geyser in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. It is one of the park's most well-known natural features, and is famous for its predictability. It generally erupts every 91 minutes.
Grand Prismatic Hot Spring - The third largest hot spring in the world, the Grand Prismatic Hot Spring gets its color from bacteria around its rim that feed off of the mineral-rich water. In the summer months, the hot spring is a vivid red-orange shade.
Morning Glory - This hot spring in the Upper geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming is famous for it's bright red-orange and blue-green coloring. These colors come from the bacteria which inhabit the geyser's interior.
West Thumb Geyser Basin - The West Thumb Geyser Basin, including Potts Basin to the north, is the largest geyser basin on the shores of Yellowstone Lake. The heat source of the thermal features in this location is thought to be relatively close to the surface, only 10,000 feet down. West Thumb is about the same size as another famous volcanic caldera, Crater Lake in Oregon, but much smaller than the great Yellowstone Caldera which last erupted about 640,000 years ago. It is interesting to note that West Thumb is a caldera within a caldera.
Dragon's Mouth Spring - Dragon's Mouth Spring has captured imaginations for centuries. The Crow saw the steam as snorts of an angry bull bison. An unknown European American gave it the current name. Its previous names have included Gothic Grotto, Blowing Cavern, and The Belcher. The surging action has decreased since 1994; no one is sure why. In 1999, more dramatic changes occurred: The water temperature dropped ten degrees and the color changed from green to chalky white.
Mud Volcano Area - The Mud Volcano blew itself apart in the early 20th century, but visitors can still see the impressive crater and other geothermal features in the surrounding area, such as the Mud Cauldron, Black Dragon's Caldron, and Dragon's Mouth Spring.
Fountain Paint Pot - Fountain Paint Pot, heated by the region's underground hot springs, F.P.P is half hot spring, half mud basin. The spring releases natural shades of red and yellow because of the oxidation of iron in the soil.
Artist Point - Named after the famous sketches of the waterfalls by Thomas Moran (but not actually the location where the sketched were done) this beautiful location showcases one of the most famous views in Yellowstone National Park.
Yellowstone River Falls - The Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River in Wyoming are the largest by volume in the Rocky Mountains of the western United States, and they stand more than 300 feet tall-- almost twice as high as Niagara Falls.
Yellowstone Lake - Yellowstone Lake isn't just the largest single body of water in Yellowstone National Park, but the largest elevated freshwater lake in the US. The lake contains several underwater hot springs that melt its otherwise thick ice sheets in the winter.
