Day 1: SAN JOSÉ

Summary of The Day

Welcome to Costa Rica. Upon arrival in San José, you will be met by your representative, who will help you get acquainted with this fascinating city.

Sightseeing
San Jose

SAN JOSÉ

San José is most likely the first city to host you on your Costa Rican vacation and there are a few things worth seeing aside from strolling the streets and checking out the local culture. This is the place to get in your history lessons, museum time, and people watching. The Teatro Nacional is the pride of San José. If you have the opportunity to see a performance here, snag it! But if not, just seeing the gorgeous décor is well worth a visit. The Museum of Contemporary Art and the History Museum are the other city-center institutions to see.

Day 2: SAN JOSÉ. EXCURSION - DOKA COFFEE ESTATE & POÁS VOLCANO

Summary of The Day

Start your day at POÁS VOLCANO, considered the largest active crater in the world, with frequent geyser-like eruptions.

A walk along the incredible trails leads you through cloud forests filled with stunted and twisted vegetation from the volcanic emissions and cold, windy, high-altitude habitat. If weather conditions allow, you will have the chance to see Lake Botos, which fills an extinct crater. The area is also home to many cloud forest birds, like hummingbirds, tanagers, flycatchers, toucanets, clay-colored robins, and the resplendent quetzal.

Next, visit DOKA ESTATE, one of Costa Rica’s premium coffee plantations and producer of internationally acclaimed coffees. From the picking of the coffee berries to the roasting and grinding of the coffee beans, you will see how Costa Rican premium coffees are processed and prepared.

Be sure to take a walk through the BUTTERFLY GARDEN, home to 15 species that undergo the complete metamorphosis within these walls.

Day 3: SAN JOSÉ – SARCH I – ARENAL

Summary of The Day

Your journey continues to the Arenal area, with a visit of Sarchi town, known as the center of Costa Rican handcrafts and where you will see the artists in their workshops making the famous oxcarts. Along the way, you could enjoy amazing views of the mountains as well as a major source of revenue in the area: agricultural crops that include pineapple, bananas, and sugar cane.

In the afternoon, we wil arrive at La Fortuna Village, situated in the shadow of mighty Arenal Volcano.

The evening is at leisure to do as you please.

Sightseeing
Sarchi

Sarchí

Sarchí is the capital city of the canton of Valverde Vega also known as Sarchí in the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica.

The city lies at an elevation of 1000 meters above sea level (1) on the slopes of the Cordillera Central (Central Mountain Range) at the eastern edge of the Central Valley. It is 27 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital city of Alajuela, and 46 kilometers from the national capital city of San Jose.

Sarchí is Costa Rica's most famous crafts center. The town offers more than 200 stores and small family-operated woodworking factories producing wooden bowls and other tableware, fold-up rocking chairs of wood and leather, and a wide variety of kitschy items. The most popular items on sale are "carretas", elaborately painted oxcarts that traditionally carried coffee from the highlands down to the port on the Pacific coast.

Day 4: Arenal

Summary of The Day

Nature lovers from around the world come to visit the ARENAL HANGING BRIDGES.

Journey through the rainforest with an expert Naturalist to learn about the surrounding wildlife and vegetation, and take in nature’s beauty at its most pristine state. With 15 bridges ranging from 5 to 100 meters long, one at a height of 45 meters, you will get a 360-degree view of the tropical rainforest. Plus, if the weather is on your side, you will see the most amazing views of Arenal Volcano.

Tonight, you may opt to spend time relaxing in the thermal, healing waters at Tabacón Hot Springs. These natural springs are heated by magma found in the earth’s core and they carry minerals found in the earth’s rocky stratus, which your body absorbs as you soak in the natural pools here.

Sightseeing
El Arenal

Arenal

Costa Rica is dotted with National Parks, all loaded with impressive wildlife and unique flora. It is often referred to as “the last jungle frontier,” as it is home to some of the only remaining species of trees and plants in the world. While some of the best National Parks are associated with Pacific Coast beaches, there are a few others that are must-sees on your vacation. Arenal Volcano and National Park is a tremendous source of pride for Costa Rica. As the volcano has been active for years, it is an intriguing spot to explore – lush forest where you can horseback ride, go spelunking in caves, or walk the suspension bridges in the high tree canopies. Arenal Lake is a sight to behold and humming with activity from mountain biking to horseback riding, to fishing, and kayaking. Of course the amazing backdrop of the volcano makes this lake unique and picturesque. While the volcano in recent years has not displayed much lava flow, it is still alive with steam and helps to produce some of the most exotic and retreat-like hot springs in Central America. No trip to Arenal would be complete without a visit to some of the hot spring complexes that allow you to relax in the healing thermal waters.

Day 6: MANUEL ANTONIO

Summary of The Day

Enjoy a Naturalist-guided WALK on the trails of MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK, considered one of the most beautiful areas in Costa Rica. It combines a beach of crystal-clear waters with coral reefs bordered by exuberant tropical vegetation and rainforest. Once in the park, your Naturalist guides you along different trails to observe the abundant flora and fauna of the tropical forest. In particular, several species of monkeys, iguanas, birds and, possibly, even the three-toed sloth can be seen. One of the trails borders Cathedral Point, where the view of the park and the sea is spectacular.

During the afternoon you can relax at your hotel, or you can participate in one of the optional activities offered in the area.

Sightseeing

Manuel Antonio

A little further south on the Pacific Coast, Manuel Antonio is one of the best beaches to visit. Aside from a soft and welcoming yet energetic beach, it is backed by Manuel Antonio National Park, one of the most radiant natural forests in the country. Mangrove swamps meet with pristine beaches; it possesses all the peace and harmony of the classic seagull sounds and crashing waves synonymous with vacation. If you have the opportunity, take a short hike up to Cathedral Point to see the sunset over the Pacific – it’s one of the most uninterrupted views along the central coast. And if you’ve always wanted to get your picture taken holding a giant, freshly caught fish, the waters of Manuel Antonio lend themselves to some of the best deep-sea fishing in Costa Rica.
