Day 1: San Francisco/ San Jose - Yosemite National Park

Summary of The Day

Your Yosemite Giant Sequoia Tour from San Francisco begins with a pickup at your hotel, then heads east crossing through California’s fertile San Joaquin (aka Central) Valley and into the craggy Sierra Nevada mountains. See 150-year-old mining towns and learn the colorful history of the region.

This is the only Yosemite Valley Tour tour where you will also experience the solitude of the Tuolumne Grove giant sequoias, the largest living things on the Earth. You’ll reconsider your place in the world—two-thousand-year-old trees can make people do that!

Your heart (and cameras) will be racing as you enter Yosemite Valley and enjoy stops at Inspiration Point and El Capitan Meadow. Take a moment at Half DomeEl CapitanYosemite Falls and, OMG, Bridalveil Falls. Then take some selfies.

During the winter months,Yosemite Valley is covered in soft white snow, with animal footprints scattered about in the meadows and snow-capped Half Dome casting its long shadow.

Detailed Schedule (for reference only)

6:00 - 6:30 AM: Begin your Yosemite National Park tour with a convenient pickup at your hotel (we serve most San Francisco hotels).

6:30 - 10:30 AM: Get to know your local, expert guide. Learn about the tour plan for the day. Relax and enjoy the narrative as you head east into the San Joaquin valley. Make a brief rest stop. Gather snacks and perhaps a bag lunch for the park. Discover the rich history of the Sierra Nevada foothills and its gold country. Make the climb toward Yosemite National Park.

10:30 - 12:00 AM: Enter Yosemite National Park. Weather permitting, disembark and hit the trail for an inspired hike to the Tuolumne Giant Sequoia grove (from October to May this stop may need to be skipped). It is a challenging uphill hike - take it slow. Hug a tree!

12:00 - 1:00 PM: Have your breath taken away by Bridalveil Falls, El Capitan and Half Dome. Get snap-happy with your camera or phone at Inspiration Point (aka Tunnel View).

1:00 - 3:00 PM: Free time in Yosemite Valley. Visit the gift shops, have lunch or visit the Swinging Bridge. Take a hike to Yosemite Falls, the tallest waterfall in North America.

3:00 - 5:00 PM: Pinch yourself –that was real! Re-board the vehicle and make a couple more photo stops as we exit the park. Turn west and descend from the Sierras back toward San Francisco

5:00 - 7:30 PM: Stop for a break, a stretch and a bite to eat. On clear days, watch the sun set into California’s golden hills. Continue back to San Francisco, enjoying twilight views of the City.

8:30 - 9:30 PM: Conclude your Yosemite National Park tour at the door to your San Francisco hotel.
