Akureyri

Akureyri

Akureyri, located in the north of Iceland, is the fourth largest city in Iceland, which integrates catering, recreation, culture, education and tourism. The earliest historical record of Akrari was in 1562, when a woman was sentenced for premarital sex. At that time, there were only stores for Danish businessmen and warehouses for goods. After 216 years, in 1778, the King of Denmark introduced a series of measures to improve Iceland's living conditions. One of these measures was to designate Akreyri as a trading site, and the first residential building was built. At that time, there were only 12 residents in Akreyri. The measures taken by the Danish Royal Family to improve Akreyri's living conditions were not very successful. Akreyri lost his status as a trading site in 1826 and the town was never able to develop. Until 1862, the town regained its commercial status. Akrari is an important fishery center and port.

Myvatn

Lake Mývatn

Mvatn is a shallow eutrophic lake in northern Iceland. It covers an area of 37 square kilometers and is located in an active volcanic area not far from the Krafra volcano. The lake and its surrounding wetlands are rich in waterbirds, especially ducks. About 2300 years ago, basalt lava erupted to form the lake, surrounded by volcanic landscapes, including lava pillars and rootless springs. The Lah River, with its source, is famous for its abundance of spotted trout and Atlantic trout. Because of the barrier of mountains, Lake Mi is considered one of the driest areas in Iceland. The weather is often good and it is the most important tourist area in Iceland. In addition to the beautiful scenery, Miwa Lake also preserves a complete volcanic geographical landscape, including geothermal, intermittent fountains, craters and so on. Due to its rich landscape, Lake Miwa was planned as a special reserve by the government in 1974.

With an area of 8,100 square kilometers, it is the largest and second largest glacier in Europe. The average thickness of the ice layer is 400 meters, and the thickest part is up to kilometers. Iceland's highest mountain, Warnadal Snooker volcano, 2,110 meters high, is located in the south of the Vatnajökull. There are several volcanoes on the Vatnajökull, and their volcanic lakes are the main cause of glacier melting and moving. The Vatnajökull has begun to melt in recent years, which may be related to climate change and volcanic activity. There is a huge crater on the ice sheet, called Grim crater. The hot Lake in the crater is 488 meters deep. The lake is covered with 200 meters of ice, but the heat from below melts part of the ice. Ice takes up more space when it becomes water. In the Grimm crater, increasing water will eventually break through the ice. This violent gush takes everything along its path, including ice up to 20 meters high.
